Senate approves landmark financial overhaul legislation
Thursday, July 15, 2010
Washington Post
In a 60 to 39 vote, the Senate approved landmark financial overhaul legislation. The bill now awaits President Obama’s signature.
The passage of the sweeping bill ends more than a year of wrangling over the shape of the new rules. It creates an independent consumer bureau within the Federal Reserve to protect borrowers from lending abuses, establishes oversight of the vast derivatives market and gives the government power to seize and wind down large, troubled financial firms. The legislation places much faith and authority in regulators to spot brewing problems in the financial system and prevent another crisis.

Hidden Cameras on the Arizona Border 2: Drugs, Guns and 850 Illegal Aliens
By Janice Kephart and Bryan Griffith
“Hidden Cameras on the Arizona Border 2: Drugs, Guns, and 850 Illegal Aliens” is the Center’s second web-based film on the impact of illegal alien activity in Arizona. This new 10-minute mini-documentary raises the bar, featuring footage of both illegal-alien entry as well as gun- and drug-smuggling. At minimum, the inescapable conclusion is that hidden cameras reveal a reality that illegal-alien activity is escalating. Read More and see Video…

At an international conference on Alzheimer’s disease in Honolulu yesterday, a small Philadelphia-based company presented data on a radioactive dye that promises to be a powerful new tool for penetrating the mysteries of the disease.
Used in conjunction with a PET scan, the radioactive “tracer” is injected into patients, where it quickly binds to sticky plaques in the brain that have long been considered a hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease.
The plaques appear brighter on the scan—an image of changes in the living brain once observable only under a microscope at autopsy.
Results presented by the PET tracer’s maker, Avid Radiopharmaceuticals, demonstrated at least a 97 percent agreement between the labeled brain scans and pathology examination at autopsy in the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s, according to Michael Weiner, M.D., director of the Center for Imaging of Neurodegenerative Diseases at the San Francisco VA Medical Center, who attended the talk.
In a companion study examining the brains of young people not expected to have Alzheimer’s…………..READ MORE

Obama Has a lawsuit against Arizona over it’s Illegal Immigration Law however, he has NEVER come to Arizona and patrolled the border with our Law enforcement men and women to see what they are up against……….
Ex-governor of Arizona Janet Napolitano said (paraphrased) that Arizona border problem is not bad anymore…………..
I have one question…………………
WHAT PLANET DO THEY LIVE ON ? ? ?
I also want to thank all the States across the nation that are supporting us in our fight against Obama, Napolitano and the Feds. If they win who and what will be next for a State to loose it’s rights to govern itself.

Arizona is a state that has seen an invasion of illegal immigrants continue unabated for years. Illegal immigration has taken its toll on Arizona in the form of billions of dollars spent on social services, education and prison costs.
Much more devastating, though, has been the human toll it has taken. Human and drug smuggling, kidnappings, drop houses and the murder of immigrants and American citizens are just some of the byproducts of our porous border.
After years of begging the federal government for help, Arizona finally had enough and decided to do something about it. The result is the Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act, better known as Arizona Senate Bill 1070 (SB1070).
The Legacy Foundation is disappointed in the lawsuits brought by the ACLU and the US Department of Justice against Sheriffs Babeu, Dever and the state of Arizona. The Sheriffs needed financial resources to engage lawyers who believe in SB 1070 to make their best arguments for them. Legacy is happy to be able to provide this support, but needs donations from people passionate about the issue in order to do so. Your donation through Legacy’s “BorderSheriffs.com” project will be used to pay for the legal defense of SB1070 on behalf of Pinal County Sheriff Babeu, and Cochise County Sheriff Dever. ..

Oil is no longer spewing into the Gulf of Mexico, reports Joel Achenbach: “As part of what BP calls an ‘integrity test,’ a robotic submersible slowly closed a valve on the well’s new sealing cap. That choked the flow until the plume, a fixture of cable TV and many a nightmare, disappeared…Whether the well remains ‘shut in,’ to use the industry term, depends on the analysis of pressures in the well. Engineers and scientists hope to see high pressure hold steady during the 48-hour period allotted for the test. That would suggest that the well bore is physically intact. Lower pressure would hint of breaches in the casing and leakage into the surrounding rock.”

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is the agency within the U.S. Department of the Interior that administers America’s public lands, including the animals who call these lands home. As part of its wild horse management program, the BLM periodically rounds up large numbers of wild horses and moves them into long-term holding facilities.
Over the weekend, the BLM began its latest roundup of more than 1,200 federally protected wild horses on public lands in Nevada. The use of helicopters to run the terrified horses over miles of scorching desert resulted in serious injuries and several horse deaths, which led to temporary suspension of the roundup.
This occurred in spite of the fact that the BLM, under intense public criticism, established an open comment period on its plans for wild horses that is not over until August. Instead of waiting to hear what the American public has to say, BLM officials decided to go forward with these cruel and brutal roundups in the blistering heat of summer (several more are scheduled for the coming weeks). This, of course, is funded by your tax dollars.
What You Can Do
Call the White House Comment Line today at (202) 456-1111. The Obama Administration needs to be told—politely!—that the BLM’s actions are underhanded and inappropriate, and that the current roundup and others scheduled this summer must be cancelled immediately.
Please visit the ASPCA Online Advocacy Center at www.aspca.org/BLM to learn more about this issue and to see some tips on what to say when you call.

The latest Washington Post/ABC News poll shows President Obama’s standing among white voters continuing to slip, a potentially ominous sign for his party with the midterm elections fast approaching.
Just 40 percent of whites in the Post/ABC survey approve of the job Obama is doing, his lowest rating among this key demographic since the start of his presidency and well below the 50 percent approval number that he carries nationwide. Forty-three percent of white voters strongly disapprove of the job Obama is doing, while just 19 percent strongly approve.
Among the other lowlights with whites in this poll for Obama: 54 percent of college-educated whites now disapprove of the job he is doing, and, among white college-educated women, Obama’s approval numbers has dipped below 50 percent for the first time in his presidency in Post/ABC polling.
Much of Obama’s struggles with white voters seems directly attributable to the public’s deep pessimism about the economy. (Ninety-four percent of whites polled rated the economy either not so good or poor.) Just over one in three whites (37 percent) approve of Obama’s handling of the economy — his worst rating among that demographic group ever. Forty-eight percent of white voters strongly disapprove of Obama’s stewardship of the economy, while 13 percent strongly approve.
It’s interesting that Obama’s flagging numbers on the economy have been driven not by white Republicans or white Independents but rather by white Democrats.
Since April, white Democratic approval of Obama’s handling of the economy is down 20 points, from 80 percent to 60 percent. And, nearly as many white Democrats now strongly disapprove ………………….read more
